My Addiction

Facebook is my addiction. I check it in the morning, I check it in the afternoon, I check it in the god damn restroom when I am taking a dump. God damn it Facebook, why? Its because it feels like it provides me direction. The same kind of addiction associated with binge watching a TV show. However since Facebook makes me this way. I stop pursuing things that truly provide direction in my life i.e. starting a company, learning a language etc. Because the direction that Facebook provides me is quick and easy fix, vs actual direction which is more difficult to pursue. This is accelerated by the quick and easy access to information that Google provides because now, Facebook provides a direction in my life while Google takes care of my procrastination, causing an endless cycle of nothingness.

Computer Program

Life is like a computer program, just cause you get some runtime errors doesn't mean you can't go back and recompile. Unless you die, so don't do anything too stupid.

Reap what you sow

I think in this socially connected world, we are looking for instant gratification more often than not. When we put in some effort we expect to see results or we are disappointed for ourselves. But that's not usually  how the world works, because Gratification is not a click or a doughnut away (well sometimes). In back in the day when the term "you reap what you sow" was coined. Farmers worked long hard hours, not being able to see their end product. Only when they put in the required amount of hours did they see their end results, and even then sometimes they wouldn't see anything. Life is like rice, sometimes you reap what you sow, other times you just have to go.

Losing

You take that quiz, should you divide by gcc? Should you not? Your adrenaline rises. Stop it, you tell yourself. You don't seem to be able to. Finally you give in and tune out the voices in your head, rising in pitch and volume. Silence... An eerie calm fills you as you get up. You turn in your quiz, and now you realize you made a horrible mistake. What is common sense telling you? Gcc matters, or else the units don't work out. You have turned in a quiz with all the wrong answers... Because of one constant term you screwed up. Its worth maybe 0.1% of your final grade. But still care. Why? Because you hate losing more than you love winning, and that's why you have the seeds of success sown in your blood. I guess happiness just comes later. Now I have to work...

Gun Control

Using the past, and traditions as an excuse to committing the same mistakes over and over again is the first step to the demise of any entity. Corporations change to suit market needs or they go extinct. People change in order to keep their job. Countries change in order to prevent collapse i.e. prevent the next Rome. Complacency is justified by tradition, until its too late to close the rift formed by outdated policy and antiquated thinking. Ordinary citizens have no reason to have guns, and this just signifies a deeply rooted mistrust in government. With a means there is a way; hence, guns provide the means of killing people which, is in a way, less personal than other means of murder. Therefore, murder becomes an option on the minds of many people who would have dismissed that fact if otherwise unavailable, and an inception of an idea occurs. Allowing the fermentation of this idea over time, i.e. escalation, causes incidents like Sandy Hook, and Aurora to occur, and the interesting fact is that even when guns aren't used in homicide, the fact that they are options, helps the perpetrator down the path of killing. And when guns speak louder than words, the seeds of Anarchy have been sown.

How to design your own linux machine

Design a Linux Computer: http://hforsten.com/making-embedded-linux-computer.html

Edit this is cool too: http://www.opencircuits.com/Linuxstamp

Very Interesting post on how to make and flash a Linux computer. I was thinking about a new product. Maybe just a tease. Calling it the Box... The Box Touch? IDK. Remember, I'm still a caffeine zombie.

Caffeine

I understand now, Caffeine doesn't last forever, nor does its effect if you keep drinking it. I think I've turned into a zombie. Save that for special occasions. Bawls, I guess its like my Shiner Bock. Damn it, hopefully Kanye West will do the trick.

Solids

This class is challenging to say to least. "Column one, column three ahh". Need to pay more attention to the material being taught, can't concentrate very much, can't learn like this. Shit Fire Alarm goes off in the Chemical Engineering building. Go Figure. Probably a false alarm. Hahaha

Distribution Channels

Reading a very interesting book called Traction. The key to success seems to be the distribution of an idea not just the actual idea itself. If the actual idea itself is "Cool" does that mean distribution will be easier? Talking to people never seemed to be a crutch of mine. Of course I'm months away from developing a working prototype. You know what, I don't actually believe that, but my roommate told me to be realistic, sure(sarcasm). Back to work.

Apartment Leasing

I hate leasing. Somebody should do something about it. Start-up idea maybe? Lol I'm not doing it. We'll maybe... We will see.

Distracted

Why am I so distracted at this moment? It shouldn't be this difficult to concentrate on things that I "need" to do. I could do so much more without Facebook, Huffington post, and Instructables distracting me. Direction is what I lack in my life, direction is what I need. I still can't get her off my mind, shit.

Need something better to Do

The routine is always the same. Sleeping in late and waking up late. I need to get my mind off her, and I need something better to do, Dynamics is always a good start.

...

There are those who take my breath away when I see them for the first time, but what about those that do it every single time I see them? Actually there is just one. Most of the time I try to distract myself from you but no matter how many people I talk about or think about... I listen when you talk about that one special person in your life. That smile on your face when you pick up that phone to text him is worth the heartbreak, because your smile does something no one else has ever done… Is this love? I distract myself, start-ups, accomplished a lot. However all are unfinished like me. I don’t ever want to lose you, but sometimes it’s not really what I want. You see, even if you said yes, I never could. But that ok, because I just need you to do one thing for me, please never ever stop smiling.

Anger

I woke up to discover an insatiable itch on my left foot, and a big a** mosquito floating in front of me. *swat* D*** it I missed. I was getting tired of these mosquitoes taking advantage of me while I peacefully slept. I was going to find that mosquito and kill it.

After realizing that I wasn't going to find that particular mosquito, after only a couple minutes. I turned my attention to killing any mosquito I could find. I reasoned that the restroom would have the most mosquitos and I swatted every single one with an electric mosquito bat. The last one I hit kept crackling in the bat for a couple seconds, and a realization dawned upon me. Not a single mosquito in that bathroom bit me, or had the chance to. I was taking my anger out on the closest thing I could find.

In life there are people that make you just burn up inside, and usually you can't get back at them, so you end up hurting the people that are the easiest to get to: your family, and your friends. Your anger disrupts their day and they to feel that burn. Most likely, they will take their anger out on someone else. Causing a cycle of hatred to build up, all because one B**chy a** decided to ruin your day. Think about it, and don't let them F*** up society.

Leap of Faith

Fantasies

We all have them. Some of us live in one right now while the rest either did or hope to do the same. The people we meet, the food we eat, the movies we see, the society we live in all affect our fantasies. They can take us to great peaks or low valleys, and feed our insatiable appetite for insecurity. They give us direction, help us define our goals in life. However, fantasies are dangerous, and understanding the fine line between motivation and insanity can help us be happier individuals. Remember fantasies can't become reality if you don't have the confidence to back them up. Letting go of those insecurities is the first step. Of course by the time you have done both things, your fantasies will have evolved as well, creating a cycle of self-improvement, and a path to happiness. Just take the red pill.

Emotion

It’s the one thing that can hold us back, or propel us to new heights. It is what differentiates us from computers and drives the continuity of our species. So how is it that success in our society, is seemingly structured in very different manner? The most successful people seem to be the ones that suppress emotion and rationally make their decisions. We are taught from a young age to discipline ourselves, and refrain from the overuse of emotion in everyday life. We are told to refrain from young love, anger, greed, and jealousy if we want to become socially successful.  Yet, what drives people to greater heights, are these emotions. Some of us, when we are jealous, strive to be the person we envision in our minds because of it. For others, love will drive us to do things we never imagined of ourselves. Our insecurities provide a path that we can follow and give meaning to our lives. So embrace it, cherish it, love it, because it’s only human.

Pacifist

A pacifist is someone who puts up with shit… I don’t like that. Speak your mind and open your heart and maybe you can make the difference you wanted to make.

Lying

We lie in life because telling the truth is too much work. Sometimes we feel that telling the truth would make us obliged to explain ourselves at that moment. Other times we are afraid that telling the truth would make us lose our credibility and our dignity. When we lie, we have the intention of correcting ours or other’s mistakes without anyone else knowing. It buys us time, but when we can’t deliver, things go wrong. Sometimes we lie out of fear, other times we lie out of manipulation. But lying destroys us inside. It makes us weak and unable to stand-up for ourselves later, when it really matters. It destroys our sense of self identity and what we stand for as a person. Lying is wrong, deceiving and hurtful. Think before you say something, because even a small lie can play its part in tearing apart friends and family. I’m sorry…

Secrets

Many of us in life live a routine. We may be successful from a societal standpoint but somehow don’t feel fulfilled in life. Share your inner deepest secrets with people; humans keep secrets because they are afraid of what the consequences are going to be. Don’t worry about consequences. Speak your mind. When you want something, ask for it. If you are a jerk in the view of society, so be it. You will feel alive and full of energy from telling the truth. If you are mad at someone, tell them. If you don’t like something say it. Be authentically yourself. Why fear society when you can be you? Maybe you will discover that your dreams have been covered up by societal standards and you have forgotten how to dream all along. Don’t waste away life being someone who you want society to see, its not worth it. This course of action is not for the faint of heart. You might experience pain, much pain, but eventually a vitality will return to your life. Because I guarantee that almost all of you reading this have things that you are too afraid to share. So think about a secret and share it; if you don’t like something say it. We all have things we like to keep inside ourselves, but don’t be afraid. Live your life.

BEST

“If you gave it your best, then you shouldn’t be disappointed” How many times have you heard that phrase? Well I’m going to flat out tell you that it’s a lie. Well… not quite, because the statement itself is somewhat true, the difference is in how each of us defines “giving your best”.

A true competitor know that even if he/she wins a race, or a competition there is still something left for he/she to give. Let’s take a footrace for example; if the competitor is still alive after the race, ok maybe not that extreme, is still left standing after the completion of the race then there is more that the competitor could have given; they did not perform at their best. Now if they are satisfied with the “subpar” performance then that’s completely ok. Usain Bolt in the 2008 Olympics did not give his all in the 100 meter dash; he celebrated across the finish line in style, and STILL broke a world record. Should he be disappointed in his performance? No. Did he give his best? No. There is so much more each of us could give if only we cared more.

Now life isn’t a straight-line race to the finish line. It’s more like a multi-dimensional maze with pitfalls, forks, cliffs, and peaks. There are many resources to help us navigate this maze, and the mastery of navigating portions of this maze is what I like to call giving your best.

Most of us like to talk about what we were or what we are going to be. We usually never talk about what we are, because if we did then we wouldn’t be so insecure about ourselves. We all have things in life that we wish we could change, and a way to minimize these insecurities is by being the best you that you can be.

“Now Shaek not everyone can run a hundred meters in 9.51 seconds” That is true, but if you are trying to run a hundred meters and your body isn’t built for running (aka. Short and stubby) then you really aren’t being the best you that you can be. You can get a squirrel to drive a car, but it isn’t going to be a Lewis Hamilton anytime soon; you should spend some time trying to find out what make you, you; what drives you, inspires you to live not just exist. But giving your best and being your best doesn’t happen overnight usually; it’s a process that is refined over time and a crucial step in discovering yourself. When you find what truly drives and inspires that flame in you, you will be on that path to being the best you that you can be.

In most circumstances however, giving your best will be enough to succeed in anything you set your mind to. This is because most people do not give their best in any circumstance. Before they can get to that point their mind tells them that they can take no more. However, this is simply not true. By stretching what your mind believes you are capable of you will be on the path to give your best in everything in life. I’ll get back to finishing that black tea I started on, I heard a combination of ginger and lemon makes it taste even better than it already does.

Hope

Hope is the worst torture that a human can experience. When given two distinct options. humans will always chose the more hopeful of the two answers. Whether it is a serial killer giving hope to their victim or a university giving hope to their applicants, hope defines why we make the decisions we make in life. When given the slightest amount of hope, humans will snatch the opportunity to benefit form this form of deception, no matter the probability for success. Why do we even care? Because we are human.
